At Magical Sprouts Nursery, we believe every native plant has a story to tell.

While milkweeds will always remain at the heart of our mission to support monarch butterflies, each year we also select one special native perennial to feature as our Native Perennial Spotlight. These plants are chosen for their beauty, ecological importance, and the unique role they play in supporting pollinators and other wildlife.

Our goal is to introduce gardeners to remarkable native plants they may not have discovered before and inspire them to create more diverse, wildlife-friendly landscapes.

2026 Spotlight Plant

For our inaugural Native Perennial Spotlight, we chose Tennessee Coneflower (Echinacea tennesseensis).

This federally endangered wildflower was once found only in a few locations in Middle Tennessee. Thanks to decades of conservation efforts, habitat protection, and dedicated seed collection, it has recovered enough to be removed from the federal endangered species list in 2011. Today, it stands as one of Tennessee’s greatest native plant conservation success stories.

We were honored to help share that story by offering Tennessee Coneflower during our 2026 season.

Looking Ahead to 2027

Choosing our Spotlight Plant is never a quick decision. We spend months researching native plants, their conservation significance, their value to butterflies and other pollinators, and their potential to inspire more people to grow native species in their own landscapes.

Our 2027 Native Perennial Spotlight has already been selected, but we’re keeping it a secret just a little longer.

We’ll reveal our 2027 Spotlight Plant before our spring plant sales, along with the butterfly or pollinator story that makes this native species so special.

Until then, we’ll leave you with one hint…

It’s another remarkable native plant with an incredible story to tell.
